On February 9, 2021, the snow came down hard enough to cancel everything except the barn. So the barn won. Rylee and Kaleb pulled on every layer they owned, and the horses — already rugged up in plaid, pink, purple, and teal — seemed just as pleased about the change of plans.
Nobody bothered with saddles. There was bareback riding over blankets, a lot of leaning, hugging, and balancing, and at least one curious nose shoved directly into the camera. The palomino supervised from the fence line in its purple blanket, entirely unbothered by the weather.
By afternoon the two of them were riding side by side down the fence line through unbroken snow. The last frame is the lane after everyone went in to warm up: black fence posts, white ground, and quiet.
